The District 99 Board of Education met on Monday and appointed Allyn Barnett to fill the vacancy on the Board of Education left by Robert Lemke. Lemke formally resigned on April 30th because of “frustrations over the school Board’s processes,” as he himself put it.
“Mr. Barnett has a wealth of experience and can hit the ground running,” said Board President Julia Beckman in a District 99 press release.
Three out of 10 total candidates that applied were interviewed on May 24th by the Board in a closed session. The decision to appoint Barnett was present during the open session on May 24th.
“I am honored to be chosen from such a pool of well qualified applicants,” said Allyn Barnett.
Barnett has 20 years of experience as a school board member, having most recently served on the District 99 Board from 2005-2009.
Barnett lost in 2009 running for re-election to the Board to Deborah Boyle.
Board members Bill White and Boyle were the dissenting votes, while Board members Paul McCarthy, Megan Schroeder, Terry Pavesich and Julia Beckman all voting for Barnett’s appointment.
Barnett will be serving the remaining term left by Lemke, expiring on April 4, 2011.
