Unfortunately, District 99 continues to make the news.
Last week, board member Robert Lemke resigned. He will submit his formal resignation notice tomorrow, April 30th.
His reason for leaving was basic, short and simple: “I leave with growing frustration over the school Board’s processes.”
Most recently, District 99 was under fire for not approving science teacher Andrew Klamm for tenure for next year and releasing him. Beyond that, the District struggled to maintain a balanced budget and was forced to make several cuts, including a reduction of teachers and additions of fees to students and parents.
Lemke said that he felt ignored and his comments weren’t heard. Most recently, disagreements between him and the Board arose over the District’s failed agreement with the Park District for share pool usage.
Lemke has served on the District 99 Board for 7 years with his current term expiring next year, in April 2011.
“Bob has been a dedicated board member who focused a lot of time and effort to serve the best interests of District 99 students,” said District 99 president Julia Beckman in a press release. “We are very appreciative of his time and commitment.”
Superintendent Mark McDonald stated that “Mr. Lemke was a thoughtful, committed Board member who brought many ideas to the Board and Administration that had a positive effect on the District.”
Lemke was most frustrated with the process used to come to decisions. He set out to improve the method with which the District communicated with the public, spent money and used available resources.
“This is a wonderful chance for the school Board to work together to find a replacement,” Lemke said.
