When the Village of Downers Grove formed the Comprehensive Planning Committee earlier this year, I am sure many of you were questioning what Comprehensive Planning exactly is.
Simply put, a Comprehensive Plan incorporates and consolidates a community’s goals and aspirations for its future layout and physical character. More specifically, it serves as the community’s shared vision for land use, physical development, and enhancement.
Yesterday, as part of the study on developing an updated Comprehensive Plan, the Village has released the following PowerPoint presentation which (in my opinion at least) concisely describes what a Comprehensive Plan is, examples from surrounding towns and a timeline of what to expect regarding development of the Downers Grove Comprehensive Plan.
Look for a draft copy around December 2010.
It should be said, the Village’s Community Development department is facilitating an extraordinarily open process.
All the Total Community Development (TCD3) input has been online throughout the input phase of this process.
Now all the Ad Hoc Comprehensive Plan Committee documents are being available to the public as they are created.
So if a resident is interested in what’s being done, everything is open and available.
And resident comments are welcomed in a number of formats: email, stand-up statements at meetings, etc.
This is a good example of open government!
Excellent comment and point John. I don’t think many residents realize how beneficial it is to have this information readily available…
