While plans and ongoing discussions revolve around the concept for the new Fishel Park bandshell, the Park District will continue with the Summer Concert Series at Fishel Park. The listing of shows with dates and times can be found here. The Village Council will be discussing and revising the Long Range Financial Plan (LRFP) for the Village on Tuesday, June 29th. This LRFP will be updating the existing 2010-2012 LRFP. Start by viewing the 2010-2012 LRFP here. The purpose of the LRFP is to help develop a concise budget for the upcoming year. A summary of the following will be discussed:
1. A summary of the 2010 LRFP 2. A summary of the 2010 LRFP implementation efforts 3. Identification of new financial trends and issues 4. Recommendations for updates for the 2011-2013 LRFP
The 2011 LRFP approach will provide multiple avenues for resident and Council input but will differ significantly from last year’s approach. Beginning in May, civic engagement will be solicited primarily through the Village’s website. The four sections of this report will be posted on the Village’s website. Residents will be provided the opportunity to submit comments, questions, thoughts and suggestions to the Village. If you have comments or suggestions, you are encouraged to please email the Village here. When we discussed that the DuPage Water Commissionwould be raising the water rates provided to municipalities, we were thinking it would take effect in May. Sure enough, look for that increase in your July water bill. If you remember, there was a good amount of discussion regarding this increase at a few Village Council meetings. The Village will continue to work on a long-term rate plan to ensure the future viability of the water system in Downers Grove, as well as to allow us, as residents, to grasp what future water rates will be. As for now, residents in the Village will see their rate (per 750 gallons) go from $3.04 to $3.31 and for unincorporated residents, from $3.34 to $3.85. As a reminder, these additional costs are being passed on from the DuPage Water Commission rate increase. Please read more information on the increase here. Metra will be working to do repairs to the railroad tracks at Fairview in Downers. Also the Belmont Underpass project is continuing with a re-reoute of traffic to the road diversion to be completed by the end of this week. Currently, the two-week closure of the tracks at Belmont Ave. is scheduled for July 6, 2010. In case you haven’t noticed, Dali’s Cafe is no longer in downtown Downers Grove. Voula Verros, prior owner of Dali’s Cafe, has sold the restaurant apparently intending to focus more on Eggstacy, New Yolk New Yolk and a new burger restaurant. Look for Kristinas Cafe to open up in the next two weeks. Noah’s Hope 5k and kids run & family palooza is this Saturday, May 22nd at 9am. From May 15 to September 15, residents are permitted to use outdoor water based on an even/odd system. The last digit of an address determines the day. If an address ends in an even number, the resident can water on even calendar days; if the address ends in an odd number, the resident can water on odd calendar days. Outdoor water usage is permitted between 4 a.m.and 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. on your watering day. Hopefully, you jumped on one of the rain barrells that the Village was recently selling!
